Probably one of the most exciting things about The Handmade fair is that we get a chance to see the grand masters in the flesh doing what they love. My interest in Annie Sloan’s chalk paint went up a gear last year when I discovered through her talk in the Super theatre that you could dye fabric with chalk paint. I remember coming away with a rainbow of ideas zooming through my head so I’m very pleased to say that this year I’ll get to share some of them with
you in the up-cycling tent.
I’ll be running a workshop every morning showing you how you can use different techniques to customise a tote bag. We will be putting your bag through it’s paces with techniques such as tie dying, painting and even printing with scallop shells. Chalk paint really is such a fun way to add character to your textiles be it curtains, bed linen, white summer dresses or your favorite old lacey table cloth. Everything I show you in the workshop can be tried and tested at home.
I’ll also have samples of my work with me if you fancy some inspiration on how to use the techniques at home including my dip dyed parachute dress (if I can still get into it!).
See you there : )
